In spite of mounting evidence to the contrary, soymilk and other soy products are continued to be a suggested part of the American diet. Soymilk often contains controversial ingredients, like carrageenan, and is not the paragon of health it is often claimed to be. Soy products are also common food additives, like soy protein isolate or hydrolyzed soy protein.
Here are 7 reasons why soy isn’t all it’s cracked up to be:
- Soybeans contain significant amounts of natural toxins, or anti-nutrients – drinking 16oz of soymilk per day can actually alter a woman’s menstrual cycle.
- Consumption of soy products increases the body’s need for vitamin B12 and vitamin D.
- Haemagglutin, a substance found in soybeans, promotes red blood cell clumping and clot formation.
- Most soybeans are GMO products and are highly contaminated with pesticides.
- Soy products have high quantities of aluminum, which is toxic to the nervous system and kidneys.
- Soy isoflavones can exacerbate existing breast cancer, making it grow faster.
- Plant estrogens found in soy foods called phytoestrogens can lead to endocrine system disruption, breast cancer and infertility in women.
