An animal study run by Tunisian researchers evaluated the antioxidant potential of essential oils derived from Spanish lavender (Lavandula stoechas). The mouse model showed that these essential oils could protect the kidney and liver against oxidative stress caused by malathion injection.
The Higher Institute of Biotechnology of Beja provided support to the study, the results of which were published in the Journal of Medicinal Food.
The study showed that Spanish lavender essential oil displayed hepatoprotective and nephroprotective activity against the harmful oxidative stress caused by malathion. The researchers believe these protective properties could be attributed to the antioxidant activity of the oil.
