Moringa is a powerful natural medicine for diabetes

Moringa (Moringa oleifera) has been established to have antidiabetic properties in some studies. A study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food investigated the antidiabetic activity of extract taken from moringa grown in Cambodia.

  • An analysis of the ethanolic extract of moringa leaves revealed the presence of flavonoids, polyphenols, lycopene, and beta-carotene.
  • The extract was administered to db/db mice at a dose of 150 mg/kg every day for five weeks.
  • The treatment reduced the animals’ fasting plasma glucose (from 483 to 312 milligrams per deciliter [mg/dL]), triglyceride (from 42.12 to 23.00 mg/dL), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (from 107.21 to 64.25 mg/dL) compared to control group.
  • The moringa extract also caused an increase in the animals’ insulin levels.
  • Furthermore, the treatment with moringa extract caused a decrease in histopathological damage and the expression of tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin (IL)-1-beta, IL-6, cyclooxygenase-2, and inducible nitric oxide synthase in kidney tissues.

The researchers concluded that their findings are proof of moringa’s antidiabetic activity.
