Yoga therapy effects on tissue regeneration through stem cell stimulation

The connection between mind and body has been recognized for years. Yoga is based on this concept because it uses movement and breathing exercises to promote health. A study published in the Journal of Ayuverda and Integrative Medicine supported this theory.

Researchers wanted to find out if yoga therapy stimulates trafficking of bone marrow stem cells to the blood surrounding it. This, can, in turn, help reduce inflammation, fight apoptosis, revive lost cells, and postpone the aging process.

The study’s main findings revealed that:

  • Yoga can promote the movement of stem cells from the bone marrow to the peripheral blood so it can repair and regenerate tissues.
  • The health benefits of yoga can be traced to the repair and regeneration of tissues by replacing and recruiting cells differentiated from the stem cell which can’t be achieved through drugs.
  • Yoga can be one of the best means to promote stem cell trafficking which enhances health and quality of life, thereby lengthening a person’s years.
  • The researchers did not find direct evidence from past literature that supports a direct link between stem cell trafficking and yoga, so more studies are required to prove this.

What is clear to the researchers is that yoga therapy can enhance stem cell trafficking from bone marrow to peripheral blood; thus, making it possible for the tissues to repair and regenerate.
