Sunscreen WARNING: Chlorinated water transforms sunscreen ingredients into cancer-causing chemicals while you swim

New research conducted at Lomonosov Moscow State University finds that sunscreen ingredients are transformed into cancer-causing chemicals when exposed to chlorine in swimming pool water. In effect, sunscreen plus chlorinated swimming pool water is a kind of “binary weapon” that produces cancer-causing chemicals right on your skin as you are swimming.

The chemicals created in this process have been linked to infertility, cancer and immune system damage. As Natural News reports:

In swimming pools that use copper salts to make the water look blue, this reaction is even worse. In that case, the sunscreen can break down into bromoform, a substance that has been linked to nervous system disorders, liver problems, and kidney problems.

University of Kansas Health System Dermatologist Daniel Aires told the Kansas City Star: “It can degrade into some very harmful compounds, some of which are known carcinogens. What isn’t known is how much is absorbed into the skin, or if it’s to a level that can cause, or potentially increase, the risk of cancer. But this is certainly alarming.”

In effect, the sunscreen industry is selling people products made with ingredients that transform into cancer-causing substances as they swim. It’s one more reason to ditch mainstream sunscreen products and seek out safer, more natural skin care solutions.
