(MensFitnessFocus.com) It’s summer and if you can get outdoors for at least part of your workout you’re going to be ahead of the game. Granted, you have to be careful in the heat and make sure you’re well hydrated, of course, but summer heat puts extra stress on your body and can help jump-start weight loss.
And what better way to make the most of your outdoor workout than dragging a weighted sled?
My buddy Rich and I tried this the other day and let me tell you something – by the time we headed inside to finish our 30-minute extreme fitness workout, we were well on our way to being gassed.
It was the first time I had actually pulled one of these contraptions, which is located outside of the Anytime Fitness gym we belong to. He suggested to me in a text earlier in the morning before we met for our usual noon workout that we try it and, not really knowing what it was all about, I readily agreed.
Man, was I feeling it after just the first pull. We threw in some tire flips as well and that completed the strength-training portion of our workout. I wasn’t sure I could even finish but I plowed through and made it to the end. Glad I did, too, because it is another day of extreme fitness that I have under my belt. But let me tell you something: Make sure you eat for this one. I didn’t have a decent breakfast as it happened, I skimped on dinner the night before. Don’t do that and expect to finish this workout with flying colors. I was unable to complete ALL of the reps because by the time we got to our sprints, frankly, I was out of gas.
That said, if you really want a good workout, as in, an extreme workout, throw in some weighted sled pulls. Once a week ought to do it.
Here’s our full workout:
First, outside:
5 weighted sled pulls (two 45 plates) – 30 yards
60 tire flips (sets of 10)
Then:
5 rounds each
— battle ropes (20 seconds)
— rope climber (30 seconds)
— rowing machine (30 seconds)
Finish:
5 fast runs on treadmill (30 seconds)
